Meet Your Teacher— Rebecca Holt
Hello, I’m Rebecca, founder of MatheMagician. I earned my degree in Neuroscience from Columbia University, focusing on how children learn and grow. Since then, I’ve devoted my career to reshaping how we teach — especially when it comes to math.
My journey began in 2016 with Teach for America, where I taught middle school math in North Carolina. I then spent seven years in public and charter schools in New York City, where I saw firsthand the inequities in education and became passionate about ensuring both justice and excellence in the classroom.
Over the years, I discovered that students thrive most when learning in small groups. Why? Because they get:
- Individualized attention
- A safe space to ask questions
- The support they need to build confidence
I dedicated countless hours to helping struggling students outside of class and found that many learning challenges can be overcome with the right support and environment.
After moving to Los Angeles, I pursued a Master’s in Education with a specialization in Math. Since then, I’ve helped students achieve remarkable academic growth — often jumping 1.5 to 2 grade levels in a single year — all while developing a deeper love and understanding of math.
That’s what inspired me to launch MatheMagician:
A place where students are seen, supported, and challenged — no matter their starting point. Here, we believe every child has the potential to succeed in math when met with care, encouragement, and the right instruction.
What Parents Are Saying
My daughter used to cry over math homework. Now she’s the first to raise her hand in class. The change in her confidence has been incredible — we owe it all to MatheMagician.
Parent of a 6th grader
My son was bored in class and starting to tune out. At MatheMagician, he finally found the challenge he needed — and he actually enjoys it! He even chose to do extra math problems at home.
Parent of an 8th grader
She used to say, ‘I’m just bad at math.’ Not anymore. Now she approaches problems with curiosity and doesn’t give up after the first try. That mindset shift alone is priceless.
Parent of a 7th grader
My son was nearly two grade levels behind in math. After a few months with Rebecca, he’s not only catching up — he’s leading his group at school and feeling proud of himself again.
Parent of a 5th grader
Yes, her scores improved. But what really stood out was how she started believing in herself. She’s more confident, asks better questions, and isn’t afraid to make mistakes anymore.
